The Gold Coast’s world champion kickboxer “John” Wayne Parr is on a plane to Singapore, jetting towards possibly the biggest payday of his decorated career.
At his destination, he will compete in Mark Burnett’s new reality TV show The Contender Asia – the prize a cool $US150,000, the biggest payday in the history of Muay Thai kickboxing. But with it comes something possibly more valuable – the international recognition that comes with being a Contender champion.
It should be the happiest day of Parr’s life, yet all he can do is cry – for he doesn’t know if his father will be alive when he returns.
